This program not only gives you the required knowledge but also a global certification which is highly valued by the coffee community Internationally.

DAY 1:

  • Introduction to specialty coffee.
  • Introduction to pulling espresso and steaming milk.
  • The Essential Elements of espresso and how they affect the final product.
  • A step-by-step guide to steaming / texturing milk.
  • Understand the difference between various milk-based coffee beverages.

DAY 2:

  • Taste and learn the sensory aspect of espresso.
  • Practice for the exam by preparing various milk-based coffee beverages.
  • Finally, appear for the examination to earn your certificate from SCAI and SCA (if you opt for 1)

SCA Barista Skills – Foundation course, designed for learners with no previous experience to gain an introductory understanding of coffee. Also, one would gain the foundational skills required to operate an espresso bar. Further, it is the stepping stone to the coffee industry.
Using theoretical and practical hands-on training the Authorised SCA trainer will take you through this Barista Skills Foundation course. 

Note: Since the course is part of the foundation modules for the Coffee Diploma. On completion, 5 credits will be awarded.

Course methodology:

Language: English

  • In-person classroom session (2 Days – inclusive of the practical exam).
  • Module-specific lectures to explain concepts and theories about barista skills and coffee.
  • Practical activities include demonstrations and practice time allocated for espresso extraction & milk texturing. Further, achieving recommended extraction, the texture of milk, and ratio.
  • Mutual sharing and feedback.
  • Practical exam to check your understanding and barista skills (Milk texturing, extracting espresso, latte art).
  • An online exam will be held by SCA and the link will be shared with learners. Further, learners will have up to 20 days to finish it.

Note: Upon 2 failed attempts students may choose to pay a re-enroll/ re-exam fee for SCA certification or opt out of the exam if they choose to. Hence, no SCA certificate will be issued. However, a certificate of completion from SCAI will be provided. Further, The course fee includes course learning material, SCA examination, and certification. You will be eligible for the SCA Foundation Certificate (if you have opted for 1) once you complete the course and obtain a passing mark for the theory exam (online).
