Unakki Estate

Unakki Estate is in Joldal Palya of Chikmagalur district located at an elevation of 3700ft – 4200ft above sea level . We are 4th generation of coffee growers. It was started as a small plantation by our forefathers and did not have a specific name to go by and it went by the name of our forefather. But recently the name “UNAKKI” was derived from den of snakes which is being situation for more than 400-500 years in our plantation . It is worshipped by the villagers as it has withheld to all the natural calamities and stayed still .

The estate has Silver Oaks and various jungle woods among the coffee plants, providing shade as well as welcoming habitat for a number of birds and animals . We do also have other crops such as orange, lemon, Jackfruit, banana, soap berries and pepper grown among our coffee .

We follow environmental friendly practices of growing and harvesting by maintaining forest shade and limiting pesticides and fertiliser. We work closely with coffee board trying their new varietal of coffee released and giving feedback.

During harvest season, three rounds of handpicking the ripe fruits takes place by our experienced workers. This fruit is then pulped, washed, and sun dried either on elevated trays or on the ground. We pulper the coffee cherries at our own pupler unit which is ” 4 Disk Eco Friendly Coffee Pupler ” to get parchment coffee .
